Mormon settlement in Jackson Hole, Wy

In the 1880's a group of Mormons came to this valley to lay claim to land to take advantage of the newly created Homestead Act. Provisions of the act where that in order to get the land for free, along with $8000, you had to harvest the land. Conditions where extremely harsh. This home was built by one of the Moulton brothers. If you look closely at the picture you can see the square in the middle of the building. This was the initial building, and after he married he built the addition on the left side for pigs. In order to harvest the land he needed horses, thus came the expansion on the right. Imagine living in these kinds of conditions.

This settlement was the Perry homestead. The woman who lived here was the school teacher.

This settlement was also by one of the Moulton brothers. He was obviously a much smarter and astute builder. The main home was built of stucco, and the out buuildings where also much better erected.

This is the Moulton Bed & Breakfast which is on a one acre plot and is very active today. Besides the main house there are a number of cabins for rent. This is the only active property remaining from the original settlement.
