If you ever saw the movie "Escape from Alcatraz", starring Clint Eastwood, you will remember the convicts created dummy heads to put in their beds the night of the escape.

Notice the black hole on the back wall. This is the hole, done in three separate cells, that were dug with spoons. It took a year for them to build the dummy heads and dig the holes.

This is the utility corridor which was on the other side of the back wall of their cells. They scaled the utility pipes to the roof. The three have never been accounted for. It is generally believed that they drowned in the bay. In talking to a Ranger, he told us the case is still live and that there is one detective who follows any new leads. In the last number of years there have been two leads which initally appeared to be credible, however nothing was able to be confirmed. This escape happened in 1962, one year prior to the closing of the prison.
